Corsica GR20 Long Distance Mountain Trail
The GR20 in Corsica is a long distance path on the French island of Corsica in the Mediterranean. It is considered one of the most dramatic and challenging walks in the world.Rugged mounains offer fabulous views of the Mediterrean. The trail is 180km and takes about 15 days and is divided into 16 stages. From south to north the most rugged sections are at the end of the trail. The sun will also be behind you and not glaring in youe eyes during day.
The path is marked by red and white waymarkers every 6 metres, it can be foggy and snow may obscure some markers during spring. 17000 hikers a year atempt the GR20 only a third complete the route.Wild camping is not allowed but refuges and huts do the route at the end of each day.
Water is available on route marked on your route map. Most of the walk averages 1500m with typical ascent/descent of 1000m/day.
An organised self guided tour will provide you with accomodation and a hot meal evernight. This way you need have no need of heavy equipment just a daypack.
Forests of pine,chestnut and meadows are along the route. In the northern section slopes become steeper and more jagged. The Cirque de Solitude, a granite bowl, is the most rugged terrain encountered and fixed cables will help you conquer the bowl.
