Family adventure holidays are not your normal beach and pool trips. A family activity holiday can be fun for everyone. Anyone who has had children knows that even a trip to the shops can be a major expedition in itself. There are however some great ways to have adventures with your children, if you are prepared to adjust your thinking. If you enjoy mountain walking but have two toddlers why not head for the Alps and ride the cablecars up and take the mountain road down- an all terrain pushchair and a backpack can be invaluable. Why not take the ferry and go camping. There are also specialised family adventure trips where you can try out lots of activities such as from sailing to climbing. Just remember they have childen in the rest of the world too!

Kitzbuhel in the Austrian Tyrol

Usually associated with the spectacular Hannenkam downhill ski race Kitzbuhel is a fantastic destination for a family holiday in the mountains. Both the Hannekan mountain and the Kitzbuhler Horn have a network on small gondolas which can whisk you to the top of the mountains . Once on top good tracks and Tyrolean restaurants and cafes await. There are even childrens playgrounds on the mountain tops. In town there are two childrens playgrounds , a superb funpool and plenty of friendly bars and cafes for mum and dad. The centre is pedestrianised and there are good buses and a raiway station. Oh take me to Kitzbuhel now!

St.Andrews in Scotland

Wow what a beach! St.Andrews beach is one of the most beautiful and family friendly in Britain. If you re looking for candy floss and amusements then this not for you. If however a wild big flat sandy beach backed by sanddunes , dramatic mountain views one way and the historic skyline of St.Andrews the other this is your place. There is a life gaurd patrolled area , a snack hut and extensive free parking. Nearer the town is a Sea life Aquarium . Golf is of course very evident and you can practice your putting next to the Old Course first tee. A lottery system exists for tee off times at the Old course- meaning anyone can play!

Lake District Cumbria

The most scenically complete county in England. If its challenging your family then this is the place, hills and mountains of all sizes and difficulty. The big peaks of Scafell,Helvellyn,Skiddaw and the Langdale Pikes provide a challenge for older children. On a hot day atke the paddling stuff and head for the lakes beaches. Ullswater,Derwentwater and Buttermere all have beautiful spots which don't shelf too steeply. Accomodation ranges from camping , lakeland cottages and our favourite log cabins.
