History and Culture 

Buddhism is the predominate cultural influence in Thailand and unlike other south east asian countries Thailand has never been colonised by a European Nation. The country remained a buffer country between the French and Britsh conflicts. However land was eventually lost with the British gaining what id now Myanmar(Burma). Durig world war 2 Thailand "assisted" Japan in their fight aganst the allies in return for help in regaining lost territories such as Burma. After the war Thailand became an ally of the USA and underwent several military coups before gaining "stable" democratic democracy in 2007.

Thai cooking has become popular around the world for its hot fresh currries and a change from Chinese. The Thais are famous for their hospitality and this comes from the peaceful nature of Buddhism the main religion of the country. Bangkok has a reputation for the more exotic elements of the sex industry but has many cultural sites too!
