Going around the word is a dream for many travellers young and old. For the GAP year student it is still the thing to do usually ending up somewhere warm and sunny for an extended stay for work or volunteering.
The Classic working GAP destination is still Australia but New Zealand, South Africa,USA and Canada are all key players. South East Asia,India and South America are the key cultural destinations.
The round the world air ticket with numerous stages and stops is most common but there are alternatives. Train travel from the UK can take you right across Europe and into Asia, there is an overland bus from London to Australia (Ozbus) and lets not forget the whole cruise experince which can take you right round withour getting on a plane.
