Cold

Polar and mountain environments provide conditions of extreme cold.Layering is the most effective way of keeping warm preferably with a windproof and breathable layer on the outside such as Goretex. Protect extremities by wearing a hat and gloves is. Feet need protecting with thick soled boots and thermal socks. A close fitting thermal layer on tops and bottoms can really keep you warm. Exertion in cold conditions and warm clothing can make you sweat a lot so try to ventilte when moving and zip up when you stop.

Rain and wind

Rain on holiday is apain but a good Goretex jacket and over trousers will keep it at bay. Damp feet are not ideal so invest in some waterproof boots or shoes you'll wonder how you ever coped without them. An umbrella is also fantastic and it keeps the sun off too!Extremes of wind can blow you off your feet and make cool you down rapidly so a windproof jacket is esseential.
